Predicting machined surface quality under conditions of increasing tool wear

OBRABOTKAMETALLOV MATERIAL SCIENCE Том 23 № 3 2021 EQUIPMEN . INSTRUM TS Vol. 7 No. 1 2025 The simulation results of the deformation motion along the y-axis, as well as the points at which the surface roughness was evaluated using the Ra indicator, are presented in the figures below (see Figs. 21-23). Fig. 21 illustrates the method for calculating machining quality based on the Ra indicator for a cutting scenario with 0.11 mm of cutting tool wear on the back face. As seen in Fig. 21, the calculation was performed using data obtained from the model, but not from the first second, i.e., the start of the simulation, but rather from the time when the cutting process reached a steady state. In the resulting sample, we only considered the minimum and maximum values, which were used to calculate the roughness parameter, which in this case is equal to 1.26 μm. Fig. 21. Example of calculating the quality index for the case of cutting with a wear of 0.11 mm Fig. 22. Example of calculating the quality index for the case of cutting with a wear of 0.29 mm
