Marksa, Novosibirsk, 630073, Russian Federation Abstract In this research a super hard with nanohardness 34450 MPa ionic plazma coating on the surface of a hard alloy VK8 is got. This coating consists of (Ti, Zr)N and has the thickness of 15 µm. The coating has very good adhesive strength. During the experiment it was established that the even distribution of TiN and ZrN in the coating despite the micro layering of the covering itself leads to the increase of the anti-friction ability and, in general, increases service features of the hard alloy. There is an opportunity to allow the required compromise between the properties of the surface layer and the material of the cutting tools which will let the tool-cutting speed to be increased when mechanical treatment takes place.
