Ulianov Chuvash State University, 15 Moskovsky Prospekt, Cheboksary, 428015, Russian Federation Abstract One of the main tasks of machine-building production is to ensure the required quality of the product, but this is impossible without a well-prepared metal-cutting tool. Requirements for the quality of sharpening cutting elements from high-strength tool materials are quite high, they are difficult to achieve with the help of traditional abrasive machining technologies. There are combined methods by which it is possible to achieve the required quality of sharpening, but they are quite complex and require additional research to identify processing modes that could ensure the required quality of the sharpened cutting blade. The technique of the preliminary stage of the technological preparation of tool production for a comparative assessment of the methods of shaping for education on the cutting blade of various defects is given. Conclusions are drawn and the following stages of researches are planned.
