Ulianov Chuvash State University, 15 Moskovsky Prospekt, Cheboksary, 428015, Russian Federation Abstract The article discusses the problems of automation of the preparation and selection of structural materials in production as a substitute for traditional materials, because the latter do not always satisfy the growing requirements. The prospects of using mobile applications in the engineering sector as a solution to the problem are shown. One of the application options for the automation of organizational and technological preparation of production is presented using the example of the task of searching and / or choosing rational structural material instead of the traditional one. Thanks to this example, the main functionality of a mobile application was considered, its practicality in use was confirmed, compared with applications on personal computers. The creation of such applications will significantly increase the efficiency of automation of organizational and technological preparation of production.
