To eliminate the defect layer in the processing of ceramics it is necessary to control the state of the grinding wheel working surface. As a method to control actions on the work surface a free abrasive dressing is selected, because it is one of the efficacious methods of dressing. Free abrasive is supplied to the dressing area in the form of a bar, wherein the abrasive (70 %) is associated with various materials. A compressive stress dur- ing the dressing varied from 1.5 to 80 MPa. It is determined that the use of bars with smaller compressive strength allows to achieve maximum cutting ability of the diamond wheel at a high speed of its recovery.
