Ulianov Chuvash State University, 15 Moskovsky Prospekt, Cheboksary, 428015, Russian Federation Abstract The paper analyzes the operating conditions of the guide bushings of valves of internal combustion engines. It is known that the “guide bushing–valve” friction pairs, experiencing alternating loads, are subjected to increased wear. The calculation of the loads acting on it in extreme conditions of its’ operation is given, namely, when the valve stem is skewed in the hole of the guide bushing, which often leads to the “sticking” of the valve stem in the guide bushing. It is shown that the heating temperature of the guide bushings of the valves of forced engines can reach 900 °C, and the average contact pressures when the valve stem with a diameter of 14 mm is skewed in the guide bushing can be 115 MPa.
