Saint Petersburg State Maritime Technical University, 3 Lotsmanskaya St., Saint Petersburg, 190121, Russian Federation Abstract In the context of Western sanctions and the cessation of imported component supplies for ship propulsion systems, the development of domestic polymer materials for stern tube bearings has become critically important for shipbuilding in Russia. The aim of this work is to create a costeffective injection molding machine for studying composites based on polysulfones — promising materials with enhanced heat resistance and mechanical properties. The methodological section outlines the key stages in the design of a laboratory injection molding machine, including defining the initial requirements for the equipment from the perspective of the injection molding process. A force analysis of the installation is performed, a description of the injection molding process is provided, and an assessment of the financial costs of constructing the injection molding machine is carried out. The designed injection molding machine has proven its functionality on test castings, ensuring the reproducibility of technological molding parameters. This solution enables the acceleration of the development of domestic composites for stern tube bearings, which are critical for shipbuilding in the context of import substitution. This paper may be beneficial for university students engaged in research activities. Keywords Shipbuilding, design, injection molding, injection molding machine, laboratory installation, polysulfone, polymer component.
