Marksa, Novosibirsk, 630073, Russian Federation Abstract Linear electromagnetic engines (LEME) are increasingly used in percussion machines. Despite its high reliability such equipment is not efficient because of low performance of the working unit. In order to determine the state of the art of such engines, this paper presents the results of the study of energy loss ratios in real percussion LEMEs. The description of a test bench, as well as the method of determining LEME energy characteristics are described. It is shown that the main cause of low efficiency of such engines is large heat losses whose value can reach 70%. Keywords Linear electromagnetic engine, test stand, energy, heat loss
