The developed PWM controller is part of an integrated circuit of a pulsed DC-DC converter with an integrated power switch. For pulsed voltage converters are characterized by the state when the system is out of the pulse mode. In these moments, the power key is either constantly open or permanently closed. This can occur when the load current sharply changing and at initial moment of the time when power turn on of the power converter. In this situation, the power switch conducted the direct current, which can reach critical values and can disable the power switch. And since the built-in power switch is limited by the production technology of other components, it will be more prone to overheating in DC mode than discrete devices. To solve this problem, a digital unit for the PWM controller was designed, which limits the maximum pulse duration that controls the power switch. With this digital unit, the converter operates in a pulsed mode when the load is connected and when current surges on the load, it is also possible to set the maximum possible the load voltage, providing the latter with overvoltage protection.
